Hi, guys and gals!
After news of vintage Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor’s passing going around media and social networks it crossed my mind that I hadn’t heard a word about her in longer than I could remember; she hadn’t acted in decades and was no longer of great celebrity status in the media. Still, somehow she became everyone and their mother’s favourite actress or fashion inspiration when her passing came about. When you come to think about it, a lot of vintage loving girls look up to the new vintage idols just as much as mid century starlets, as modern pin ups find inspiration in those reinventing past era glamour with a modern twist. In light of this, today’s post is devoted to some of my inspirations.
#1 Dita Von Teese
She is a world famous burlesque performer and has been an ambassador for glamour in red carpets and VIP events everywhere. Impossible to miss, Dita is always shown dressing and carrying herself flawlessly, an admirable quality. The fact that her make up and hair are absolutely 1950s makes it all the more interesting she mantains a vintage inspired look wearing current creations from a number of designers.
Modelling one of her own brand designs here, she is a true modern times pin up model living the dream and proving beauty, talent and hard work add up to a successful retro fashion empire. So either you see her modelling for retro lingerie and fashion labels, or simply appearing at events, the self professed rockabilly girl always looks brilliant.
Another extremely successful career woman in the retro fashion world, the heavily tattooed dancer is top of her game in pin up modelling, having rapidly become a trendsetter within the rockabilly community and beyond – her presence in mainstream magazines is visual evidence of changing mentalities.
An established burlesque star that has performed around the world, Anna Fur Laxis has also modelled for many brands such as Vivien of Holloway (see picture). So it’s no wonder you should find this hourglass figured bombshell all over the pin up glossies; who better to represent the style than a full time vixen!
The 1940s life & style blogger, writer and model, here wearing a stunning Able Grable dress, combines superb taste and knowledge of vintage fashion. Fleur always looks picture perfect either on casual days or ballroom nights, sporting her enviable collection of vintage and reproduction clothes.
