Here’s Monday, and with it my late favourites post!
Today I received a couple of packages, one of them containing retro lingerie from ASOS‘ sale.
A lot of retro and vintage loving gals are confronted with either the non-vintage dilemma (let’s face it, there are few pieces besides girdles or brasiers you can even find for sale in decent condition, let alone wear!) or the desire to wear something more era appropriate, attractive without over revealing. So today’s post is all about retro and vintage lingerie, what the best companies are and where to buy it online.
#1 What Katie Did
The vintage inspired lingerie brand par excellence. They have a stunning range from girdles, bullet bras, knickers and suspender belts to glamorous nightwear and seamed stockings, all high quality and made from vintage patterns and styles. Here is their classic Maitresse set that would be Bra £29,50 + Knickers £17 + Suspenders £29,50 + Seamed Stockings £5 = £81. Buy these and see their whole range here.
#2 Lucy B
Purveyors of the rockabilly look in sweet to wild vintage inspired underwear lines, Lucy B makes absolutely darling underwear. I love how they do retro and vintage looks in modern pieces without losing that modern quirk and sexy touch. This set is part of the Bernie Dexter line, designed by the pin up queen herself. Buy the set for $68 and more here!
#3 Kiss Me Deadly
KmD do the whole shebang – from the 1940s styles to the modern musings, all made for the modern pin up with a hint of retro. The war time poster montages they make to their model pictures are simply adorable aswell! This Jolie set would be: Bra £40 + Brief £15 + Suspender £35 = £90. Buy this and more styles here.
#4 Ayten Gasson
One of my most recent finds, and a great one! Their romantic lines in sultry colours are to die for, and if everything feels as soft as it looks, they ought to be a dream to wear! The Phoebe set in picture: pant £44 +Bra £52 = £96. Buy this and more in their website here.
#5 Purrfect Pineapples
The quirkiest retro lingerie brand, they make a point of “cruelty free” products. The result is a delicious, colourful and fun array of printed lingerie that will surely spark up your underwear drawer. This purple + cream Roses set is under bust corset $250 + garter $59 + panties $55 + soft cup bra $80 = $444. Buy these and see more about the brand here.
There are also lots of cheaper finds on the high street fashion and lingerie shops, i.e. ASOS Revive although the quality hardly ever matches brands like the above mentioned – they’re preferable as closet fillers. But whatever your budget, these are terrific eye candy and inspiration – and there’s nothing bad about starting small. I absolutely adore this sort of lingerie and chose it above other styles, these days, for being so comfortable and form-hugging. Besides, they look infinitely better under certain retro clothing designs – don’t forget these were all made and worn at the same time, originally.
